Union Golf Road welcomes Supporters Representative Group announcement
Following the club’s announcement regarding the creation of the new Supporters Representative Group (SRG), we wanted to outline Union Golf Road’s (UGR) position, clarify how this impacts our role as an independent supporters group, and explain how we intend to work alongside this new initiative.
What is the Supporters Representative Group (SRG)?
The SRG is a newly established supporter panel designed to act as an independent, structured bridge between the club’s fanbase and its Board of Directors.
The panel will meet at least quarterly, with a standing item on the Altrincham FC Board Meeting agenda to present feedback directly to directors.

Our Position
First and foremost, we welcome this step by Altrincham FC. Creating a formal, structured route for all supporters to engage directly with the board can only be a positive move for the football club.
During early discussions, UGR was offered the opportunity to effectively become the SRG. We chose to decline this proposal. UGR was formed with a clear constitutional purpose and specific core objectives. To protect that mandate, we must remain an autonomous, democratic membership body, capable of campaigning freely on behalf of our members.
Crucially, declining this offer also allows the SRG to serve its true purpose. By remaining separate, the SRG can engage a far broader cross-section of the fanbase: including non-UGR members, families, exiles, and fans across both the men’s and women’s setups. We fully welcome this broader representation; every Alty fan deserves a structured route to share their perspective, regardless of whether they are part of Union Golf Road or not.

What’s the difference between UGR and the SRG?
The SRG is a consultative panel. It is an advisory body set up to consult directly with club directors on "issues that matter to (the) matchday community." Its participants are appointed to provide feedback for board consideration during scheduled quarterly meetings.
Union Golf Road is a supporters group. We are member-funded, governed by our own constitution and allied with the Football Supporters Association. We exist to campaign on specific objectives set by our members, provide supporter services, drive fan culture and grow the matchday atmosphere.

In short: the SRG is a panel for dialogue with the club, while UGR is a supporters group that has the ability to act on its objectives.
How will UGR and the SRG interact?
We expect the SRG to become the club's primary channel for consulting the fanbase. Because of this, it is vital that UGR feeds into the process directly, ensuring our members' interests continue to be heard clearly at board level.
The club is running an open application process for the panel to ensure the SRG reflects the widest possible cross-section of the Alty fanbase.
Several UGR committee members intend to apply to join the panel to help provide direct representation on behalf of our group. The names of committee applicants, along with our internal processes for gathering member sentiment to communicate through the SRG, will be discussed at our upcoming members' meeting on Thursday 1st October.
We strongly encourage UGR members across the board to step forward and apply. Having engaged, independent-minded supporters applying is the best way to ensure strong fan voices are right at the heart of this new panel.
Moving Forward
The creation of the SRG does not change UGR's mission or weaken our voice. It gives us another direct avenue to put your views in front of the club's leadership. We will continue to organise, campaign, and represent our members with total independence.
If you have any questions about our position or want to discuss the SRG further, feel free to reach out to the committee, or raise it at the upcoming members' meeting.
